Alameda County in California, United States, was formed on March 25, 1853 from a large portion of Contra Costa County and a smaller portion of Santa Clara County. It started as a suburb in San Francisco in the late 19th and early 20th centuries but is now considered an intensively urban region with major cities.

One of its famous cities is San Leandro, a diverse but peaceful community continuously progressing due to its rich cultural heritage, affordable living, strong community involvement and family-friendly amenities. More so, the mild weather throughout the year makes it feasible for family oriented outdoor activities and a retirement haven for senior citizens.

Discovered in 1772 by Spanish soldier Captain Pedro Fages and the Spanish Catholic priest Father Crespi , San Leandro was first inhabited by the ancestors of the Ohlone Nation-Native American people of the central California coast. San Leandro underwent major population growth during and after World War II. From 1940 to 1950 and then again from 1950 to 1960, the population doubled and thousand of homes mushroomed in the community. This in turn made San Leandro’s manufacturing and commercial sectors grow also. In addition, shopping centers were constructed to meet the expanding demand of the community.

By late 1960s, almost no open land is available for large-scale development or expansion. San Leandro’s progress continues to swell with new businesses and residential development because of its business-friendly environment. Major businesses player includes Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Costco Wholesale, Kraft/General Foods, Inc., L-3 Communications, Macy’s, and many more.
