Where the night comes alive in Alameda

Alameda is known for being California’s version of Mayberry. Quiet streets, low crime rates and a focus on families gives this town a picturesque reputation the Brady Bunch would revel in. But you can only take so much small town charm. So, where can you find the best night life Alameda has to offer? Here are five of Alameda’s top venues for those looking for entertainment after dark.

Rythmix Cultural Works- 2513 Blanding Ave

Rhythmix is Alameda culture at its finest. Known for its dedication to promoting the arts within the community, Rhythmix is dedicated to deepening your experience of music, dance and theater. Want to impress your date? How about a high-class night out at the theater. This is not your high-school production of Oklahoma. Rhythmix puts on theater productions for grownups, bringing stories filled with emotional and psychological depth to life in a breathtaking display. Theater not your thing? How about live music? Workshops? Dancing? Rhythmix has it all.

Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge- 1304 Lincoln Ave

Looking for something with a little less culture and a casual atmosphere? The Forbbidden Island Tiki Lounge is the place to be. Open every day of the week, the Tiki Bar is known for its flavorful, fruity drink specials and friendly, outgoing staff. Drinks are even rated for alcohol content, for those who want to go a bit lighter on the buzz. With an outdoor patio, free parking, and a friendly, professional staff, the Tiki Lounge is sure to please.

Island Paradise Club- 1436 Webster St.

For a night of dancing and partying with an island Reggae beat, the Island Paradise Club touts itself as “the hottest international meeting place in the Bay Area”. If the Club itself isn’t enough, they offer an annual Moonlight Cruise, an opportunity to party on a yaht while listening to some of the Bay Area’s top DJ talent spin those Reggae tunes, with an after party at the Club. Come to Paradise dressed to impress. Their dress code disallows tennis shoes, flip flops, baseball caps, and hoodies. (see site for complete dress code).

McGrath’s Irish Pub- 1539 Lincoln Ave.

Looking for a home-town atmosphere in a clean, recently upgraded, fun-loving bar? McGrath’s Irish Pub is true to its name. It’s got great new décor and a jukebox to play your favorite tunes. Populated by friendly regulars and featuring inexpensive drinks, it’s a great place to unwind after work or to take your date for a quiet evening.

Lounge 3411- 3411 MacArthur Blvd. (Oakland. No web address.)

Willing to travel just a little further for a rockin’ night of dining and dancing? Nearby Oakland offers big-city club atmosphere just a short jaunt outside the Island limits. Whether you’re into dancing or just lounging in the overstuffed couches, the Lounge is one of Oakland’s lesser-known hotspots. The owner/bartender is known for her friendly demeanor, and unlike many similar venues, the restrooms are squeaky-clean. Low prices, DJ, and live music on some nights make this a casual club worth traveling for.
